How to use the CX310 DOCSIS test set to verify actual Internet Services Upload and Download throughput data rates. This short tutorial explains how to reliably validate the actual speed being delivered to subscribers, using the V-TEST speed test functionality available in the CX310 DOCSIS3.1/OFDM/QAM/CATV test set.
Traditional service providers tend to focus on troubleshooting what they know best, their outside/cable plant and transmission technologies. That is, the physical-related layers. But, even in the best of signal conditions, customers may complain about what they care the most about: Data Rate Performance or Internet Speeds. Oversubscription can become a problem when a large number of subscribers and their children start to work, study, video conference and stream from home. A scenario that may have been labeled as "unlikely" during the planning and traffic engineering phases.

With the top speeds being offered today, such as 500 Mbps and Gigabit services, CPU-based speed test solutions become unreliable. Speed tests ran with unreliable laptops, tablets and smart phones (over LAN or WiFi) may trigger service calls that may not be related to signal levels, QAM MER, DOCSIS or OFDM. So, spending the time and money troubleshooting those layers may irritate customers and lower the Quality of Experience (QoE). Having a reliable hardware-based tool to quickly verify the actual upstream and downstream data rates (speed test), will help identify bottleneck issues (oversubscription side effects).

VeEX's V-Test is compatible with Ookla's Netgauge Speetest® servers.
